Burgruine Aggstein
Burgruine Aggstein Official Website
One of Austria’s most iconic medieval castle ruins, high above the Danube Valley, transformed into an interactive digital adventure.
About the Location
Burgruine Aggstein is one of the most iconic medieval castle ruins in Austria, located high above the Danube Valley in Lower Austria.
The site offers dramatic panoramic views and a rich historical atmosphere, attracting visitors interested in medieval history, legends, and scenic hiking experiences.
Today, the castle ruin is a popular destination that combines nature, history, and adventure.
What We Created
For Burgruine Aggstein, we developed a fully digital Adventure Quest experience designed to transform the castle visit into an interactive journey through the surrounding landscape and ruins.
The quest leads players along the wild path to the castle, where they discover stations, solve tasks, and explore key locations using their mobile phones.
The experience is available in two languages (German and English) and offers two difficulty levels, allowing it to be enjoyed by both families with children and more advanced, experience-driven players.
Experience Flow & Concept
The project was designed as a flexible, self-guided mobile experience that begins at the very start of the visit and continues all the way through the approach path and castle area.
Players simply scan a QR code at the starting location, complete payment online, and immediately receive access to the quest on their phone. All that is needed is a charged smartphone and an internet connection.
Why the Client Asked Us
Burgruine Aggstein wanted to create a modern, flexible visitor experience that would extend the journey beyond the physical castle walls and make the approach path part of the attraction itself.
The goal was not only to enhance the destination, but to turn the entire route into a meaningful and entertaining part of the visit.
Business Impact
From a business perspective, the system supports both visitor experience and operational efficiency for the site.
The Result
The result is a modern digital treasure hunt set in a medieval landscape — where visitors don’t just arrive at Burgruine Aggstein, they actively experience the journey to it as part of the adventure.
